How Wildflower Started

How Wildflower Started

It all begins with a problem. My problem, like so many, was with COVID.

With the onset of COVID in 2020, along with many others, I was no longer able to leave Townsville for the greater shopping located in our capital cities. With so many things available online, it didn’t really register at first, but when my tea canisters became empty, I realised that I didn’t want to order my tea online, I wanted the full experience of smelling all the different blends, trying a few samples, and ultimately selecting something new alongside my traditional favourites. Shipping costs were a nightmare, I simply just go through a lot of tea with my many cups a day and so I thought, why not bring my tea to me. Hence Wildflower Tea was started.

It started off as just a few, a Sencha Green, my absolute favourite untouched tea. Sunset Brew, my first chance at blending my own fruit tea and achieving that balance of fresh, fruity, but not too sweet. Drift Away, simply because I wanted a blue tea that tasted amazing. Vanilla Chai as a request from my dad, who is always volunteering as a taste tester. Rose Green, my first green tea blend to give it a little something special.

These 5 teas started the business, with it opening to the public in June 2021. My friends were all told to stop buying tea bags from the shops, I had something I wanted to share. This was the beginning. From here my interest in blending and creating new flavours grew, with everyone around me pestered into sampling many different teas so that I could find the ones perfect to expose to the world.

Now just over 2 years into operating the business, we have approximately 50 different teas. It’s taken over 1.5 rooms of my house. My weekends are spent thinking of new ideas, packing orders, and setting up for markets. A massive thanks to my partner Tom, for getting out of bed at 5am on a Sunday to help me set up the stall, and all of my friends who stop by for a chat, a toilet break, and to bring me something to eat.

Thank you to Townsville as well. The feedback I receive from individuals on how much they’re enjoying the tea they picked last time, how much they love my packaging (gold foil forever), how my packs are the perfect gift size and how they think I’m doing a great job. The business would not be here without you.

Wildflower will continue to grow as I experiment with new blends, find new ingredients and dream up new ideas. Have a blend request? Send us a message via our contact form or on our social media!
